Terms and Conditions of Entry
British Discus Show 2008

  1. All competitors will abide by these Terms and Conditions. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.
  2. The organisers will be the sole authority for interpretation of these Terms and Conditions. Their decision will be binding and final.
  3. The competition is open to everyone.
  4. There shall be 6 classes and these are:
    • Class 1 - Solid Colour - e.g. Blue Diamond, Marlboro, Cobalt
    • Class 2 - Striped/Striated - e.g. Turquoise, Snakeskin, Brilliant Turquoise
    • Class 3 - Patterned - e.g. - Checkerboard, Pigeon Blood, Ring Leopard
    • Class 4 - Spotted - e.g. Leopard, Leopard Snakeskin, Penang Eruption
    • Class 5 - Open - e.g. Albinos, Red Whites
    • Class 6 - Wild Caught - e.g. Heckel, Blue, Brown, Green
  5. Each entry shall consist of one Discus fish. The Entry Form is available here, right click and choose "Save link as" or "Save target as" depending on browser.
  6. A non refundable entry fee of £10.00 is payable for each entry and full payment must accompany the entry form.
  7. Entry forms must be received no later than 31st October 2008. Cheques should be made payable to BIDKA.
  8. The organisers reserve the right to reject any entry form without giving reasons. The entry fee will be refunded/returned immediately and in full. The competitor will be advised at the earliest opportunity.
  9. Competitors shall be limited to a maximum of 10 (ten) entries and a maximum of 3 (three) entries per class. The organisers reserve the right to vary this condition in the event of unprecedented interest.
  10. The organisers reserve the right to re-classify at the time of benching. Fish will not be disqualified for an incorrect class entry.
  11. Benching of fish shall take place from 3:30 p.m. on Friday 14th November.
  12. Fish can be collected from 3.30pm or directly after the presentations, whichever is the later, on Sunday 16th November. The organisers will have oxygen, additional bags and elastic bands available should they be needed. The organisers cannot be held responsible for any fish not collected by the close on Sunday.
  13. Fish will not be allowed to be removed earlier unless the explicit approval of the organisers is gained and then only under their direct supervision.
  14. Transferring of fish to the show tank is only to be carried out when instructed to do so and under the strict supervision of one of the organisers.
  15. Each entry will occupy its own aquarium provided by the organisers.
  16. Each aquarium will have a heaterstat and a filter containing fresh polyfilter.
  17. Each aquarium will contain water with a conductivity of 200 microsiemens +/- 10 and at a temperature of 29C +/- 1C.
  18. Competitors will not be allowed to use their own aquariums or water.
  19. No other items will be allowed in the tank other than that provided by the organisers.
  20. Any issues with tank or equipment should be referred to one of the organisers and under no circumstances should individuals attempt to tamper with equipment. (Filter flow, temp etc)
  21. The fish will not be fed during the show.
  22. No medication of any sort will be allowed without the express approval and direct supervision of one of the organisers.
  23. Competitors will not be allowed access inside the tank once the fish have been benched.
  24. Competitors may request a water change, and may also request the water be tested for ammonia, ph and temperature at any time. Their request will be honoured as soon as is practical.
  25. In the unlikely event of a fish becoming ill during the show the organisers will take whatever action deemed fit and will endeavour to contact the owner immediately. No medication will administered by the organisers.
  26. The organisers will not be held responsible for any loss or mortality howsoever caused.
  27. The organisers reserve the right to reject any fish at the benching stage if in the opinion of the benching officer the fish is deformed or otherwise obviously unfit for showing through ill health or any other reason. The organisers, including the benching officer, do not have to give any reason.
  28. Judging shall take place on Saturday 15th November between 8:30 am and 11:00 am.
  29. The results and rosettes will be posted during Saturday afternoon.
  30. The decision of the judges will be final and binding, no argument will be entertained.
  31. The judge’s assessment will be based on the condition of the fish at the time of judging.
  32. The presentation and prize giving will take place on Sunday 16th November at 2:30pm. Trophies will be presented to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed entries in each class.
  33. The Best in show shall be chosen from the class winners.
