British Discus Show 2009

Grand Champion 2008November 2008 saw the British and International Discus Keepers Association (BIDKA) host their inaugural British Discus Show in Bristol. The show was attended by over 600 visitors and was a huge success! Following on from this success we are delighted to announce that we are hosting the second British Discus Show in November 2009. The show will be held at the magnificent Haydock Park Racecourse, and will be bigger and better than last years show.

Grand Champion 2008

When and Where The British Discus Show 2009 will take place over the weekend of 28th and 29th November 2009 with benching taking place during Friday 27th November in the afternoon. The show will be held at Haydock Park Racecourse, Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside, WA12 0HQ.

Special Guests A number of highly renowned international guests from the discus world will be attending the show.

Show Dinner We will be holding a show dinner on the evening of Saturday 28th November. Last years dinner was a huge success and very enjoyable. Keep checking the forum for details and when tickets become available!

Special Guests

By popular demand Andrew Soh will again be attending the show. Andrew is a world renowned author and breeder of discus and many other fishes.

In addition BIDKA are delighted to announce Andrew will be joined by a number of special guests from the discus world.

Jörg Stendker - Jörg along with his brother Volker run the largest discus hatchery in Europe. The hatchery was founded over forty years ago by their father Heinz with just four discus. Today there are four fish houses with around 1,000 tanks in each.

Jeffrey Tan - Jeffrey has been breeding discus since 1987 and has had discus farms where he has exported fish from Ipoh, Malaysia worldwide. Jeffrey was President of the Discus Society Malaysia from 2003 to 2007.

Dr Peter Burgess is an experienced aquarium hobbyist and fish health scientist. He has written over 300 articles and five books on fish health and is a visiting lecturer in Aquarium Sciences and Conservation at Plymouth University.  Among his other roles, Peter is senior consultant to the Mars FishCare business and regularly runs fish health & husbandry courses for aquarists, fish scientists and vets.
